| Summary
We offer several contract plans for controlling
termites. Termite colonies can live for many years,
and termite control is an on-going effort. Termites in
our area tend to become relatively inactive in colder
weather, although nests can continue to be active in
heated houses. The goal is to prevent termite
infestations by eliminating termites near the treated
structures. On exceptional occasions, we agree to partial termite treatments,
which are usually not as effective for control as full
treatments.

Description |
| Monitoring
Stations |
We install
tamper-resistant monitoring stations around a
structure. These initially contain wood and we
check these stations once a month (except for
winter) for presence of termites. If termites
are found, the wood is replaced by wood
containing a pesticide (a bait) that is harmful
to termites. The termites that eat this wood
bring the pesticide back to their nest and
because of the way termites live, this kills off
the nest.
There is an initial cost that covers the
installation and two years of monitoring and
baiting if necessary. Monitoring is initially
once a month for the first two years. The
contract can be extended yearly at a modest
cost. This method can be used as a prevention,
before termites are found, and is effective as a
treatment after termites are found. To
understand how this method works, read about termites in
our pest guide. This is a common method that is
friendly to the environment in that pesticide is
used only when pest are detected. |
| Pre-construction
chemical treatment |
Before a foundation
is poured, we apply a chemical pesticide to
eliminate termites present. The pesticide has a
long-lasting residual action and forms a barrier
to termites for a number of years, and contract
specified the warrantee period. |
| Chemical treatment with
trenching |
For termite
treatment after a foundation is in place, a
chemical pesticide can be applied around the
outside of a foundation. Our contract warrantees
the treatment for a number of years. |
| Under-slab chemical
treatment |
We drill holes
through an existing foundation and apply a
chemical pesticide. Then, we repair the holes.
The pesticide action is long lasting. Our
contract warrantees the treatment for a number
of years. |
Partial
Treatment with No Contract
There are unusual situations where we agree to treat
for termites in a specific area instead of treating the
whole structure. An example would be a mild termite
infestation of one wall in an old shed. We do not
warrantee this kind of partial treatment because new
termites can come in from adjacent areas.
